What is Permanent Make-up?
Permanent make-up (PMU) is a form of cosmetic pigmentation in which special pigment colours are introduced with fine needles into the top layer of skin (epidermis) to permanently accentuate or balance facial features. Unlike decorative make-up, which is applied daily, PMU remains visible for months up to several years and gradually fades over time.
How long does permanent make-up last?
The longevity of permanent make-up is highly individual and depends on various factors.
Therefore, there is no fixed duration that applies to everyone. Influencing factors include:
the pigments used
the amount and technique of pigmentation
your skin type
lifestyle (sun exposure, sports, skincare products)
metabolism and skin regeneration
medication intake
proper aftercare during the healing phase
hormonal changes
How does permanent make-up change over time?
Over time, the pigments gradually lighten.
The result becomes softer, more natural, and slightly lighter. This process is completely normal and occurs gently and evenly.
A subtle residue of pigment may remain visible longer for some people – usually very soft and natural in appearance.
When should you get a touch-up?
To maintain the colour, freshness, and shape beautifully over the long term, we recommend a regular touch-up after approximately 12–18 months.
This is typically the timeframe in which most clients return in order to:
refresh the colour intensity
balance out natural lightening
keep the overall result harmonious over time
A touch-up ensures that your permanent make-up always looks well-defined, fresh, and beautifully maintained.
Is the treatment painful?
The sensation is very individual. Most clients describe it as a fine tingling or a light scratching feeling.
We work with a gentle technique and –if needed– a numbing lidocaine cream to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.
What is the consultation for
Our consultation is ideal for anyone who feels unsure or would like detailed information beforehand.
It is also helpful if you want to compare different studios or have an old PMU assessed.
Within 30 minutes, we discuss the topics that are important to you – for example:
answering all your questions
a pre-drawing (brows, lips, or eyeliner), if desired
assessment of existing PMU
possible colour selection
an optional allergy patch test
Note
If you decide to book a treatment afterwards, the consultation fee will be credited towards your appointment. In this case, please book the “exclusive consultation” option (shorter appointment time, €50 cheaper).
If you prefer to start directly without a separate consultation, you can alternatively book the treatment “including consultation”.
How long does the treatment take?
The duration of the treatment depends on the area being worked on and your individual skin conditions.
In general, you should plan between 2 and 2.5 hours for a new PMU treatment.
This includes:
a brief preliminary consultation
shape adjustment and pre-drawing
the actual pigmentation process
a final aftercare discussion
How does the process of a permanent make-up treatment look like?
A treatment consists of several carefully executed steps:
Consultation – we discuss your wishes and determine which technique is ideal for you
Colour and shape selection – tailored to your facial features and desired look
Pre-drawing – so you can see the planned result before we start
Pigmentation – the actual application of the permanent make-up
Aftercare instructions – to ensure optimal healing
Touch-up appointment – after 1–3 months to perfect the final result
How long does the healing process take?
Eyebrows
Initial healing: 7–10 days
Final result: after approx. 4–6 weeks
During this time, the colour gradually lightens and looks more natural day by day.
Lips
Initial healing: 5–7 days (initial swelling and a stronger colour are normal)
Final result: after approx. 4–6 weeks
The lips change significantly during healing:
They become lighter, may feel slightly dry, and the final colour develops gradually over several weeks.
Eyeliner / Lash Line
Initial healing: 5–7 days
Final result: also after approx. 4–6 weeks
Slight swelling is normal and usually subsides within 48 hours.
Will I be “socially presentable” right after the treatment?
Eyebrows
Yes. Right after the pigmentation, the brows look like freshly applied makeup and appear slightly darker, but you are absolutely socially presentable.
Lips
After lip pigmentation, the lips may appear visibly swollen.
The swelling usually subsides within a few hours and up to a maximum of 24 hours. We recommend spending the rest of the day at home or gently cooling the lips to support the reduction of swelling.
Eyeliner / Lash Line
The eyelids may swell slightly — similar to having “cried a little.” You are generally socially presentable, but if slight swelling makes you uncomfortable, it may be best to stay home for the first day. In most cases, the swelling decreases within a few hours and typically resolves completely within 48 hours.
What should I consider after the treatment?
You can find all aftercare instructions under the menu section –> Further Information –> Pre- and Aftercare
Is a touch-up appointment after the first session absolutely necessary?
The touch-up takes place 1.5–3 months after the initial session and is designed to perfect the final result.
Because the skin is a living organ and permanent make-up is intentionally implanted more superficially than a traditional tattoo, pigments may not hold evenly in all areas.
Factors such as:
skin type
metabolism
hormonal balance
aftercare
all influence the final outcome.
During the second session, we can correct any areas that need additional colour.
Why is the touch-up so important?
it evens out irregularities
it closes small gaps
it enhances colour intensity if desired
it allows slight adjustments to the shape
it ensures a long-lasting, clear and harmonious result
Many clients prefer a natural, softer look for their first appointment, often out of concern that it might turn out too dark.
After the healing process, we can clearly see how your skin has absorbed the pigment and refine the result according to your wishes.
Mandatory or recommended?
The touch-up is very important and strongly recommended to achieve a beautiful, long-lasting result.
It is not legally mandatory — but 98% of clients choose to have it, as it significantly improves the final look.
What are REACH-compliant pigments?
REACH-compliant pigments are colour pigments that meet the strict safety and quality requirements set by the European REACH regulation.
This regulation ensures that pigments used for permanent make-up:
are free from prohibited or harmful substances
have been tested for skin compatibility and purity
have a clearly traceable composition
meet the highest European safety standards
What does this mean for you?
👉 maximum safety, tested quality, and reliable, stable colour healing.
We use only REACH-compliant pigments to guarantee a safe and high-quality result for you.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a manual technique of permanent make-up and is considered a form of cosmetic tattooing.
Using a fine handheld tool, hair-like strokes are created by implanting pigment precisely into the upper layer of the skin (epidermis/basal layer).
The method originated in Asia and is now popular worldwide for creating very natural, fine-looking eyebrows.
Who is Microblading suitable for?
Microblading is particularly suitable for clients who:
have normal to dry skin
want a very natural, hair-stroke look
wish to fill gaps or improve brow shape
have little to no natural brow hair
prefer a soft, subtle result
Who is Microblading not suitable for?
Microblading is not ideal if:
the skin is very oily, large-pored, or seborrheic
the skin is very sensitive, scarred, or significantly mature/thin
an old permanent make-up is already present
there are active skin conditions in the brow area (eczema, psoriasis, inflammation, etc.)
there is a tendency for keloids
the skin tends to reject pigment during healing
Important
Microblading is not suitable for every skin type.
During your appointment, we analyse your skin and decide together which technique—Microblading, Nanobrows, Powder Brows, or a combination—will give you the most beautiful and stable result.
Wthat are Powderbrows?
Powder Brows are a machine-based permanent make-up technique that creates a soft, powdery gradient — similar to naturally applied brow powder.
The pigments are implanted gently, resulting in an even, soft, and beautifully blended finish.
Powder Brows are suitable for all skin types, especially oily, sensitive, or mature skin, as the technique is very skin-friendly. The look can be tailored from very natural to slightly more defined, depending on your preference.
Was ist Microshading?
What are Nanobrows?
Nanobrows are a machine-based hair-stroke technique in which ultra-fine lines are implanted into the upper layer of the skin using a highly precise device. This method is gentle and allows for extremely fine, natural-looking strokes that are less invasive than traditional microblading.
Nanobrows are suitable for a wider range of skin types, including normal, dry, sensitive, and slightly oily skin.
The result appears soft, natural, and beautifully detailed.
I have old permanent make-up from another studio — which service should I book?
Please make sure to send us a photo of your existing pigmentation when booking a new appointment. Based on this, we will determine whether a new pigmentation can already be performed.
If you have not visited our studio before, please book either a new treatment (including consultation) or a consultation only.
I have permanent make-up from another studio that I am unhappy with. What can I do?
Please send us a photo of your existing pigmentation along with the date it was done. If possible, try to find out which pigments were used. We will be happy to give you a brief consultation via WhatsApp Business or take a closer look at it during an in-studio consultation.
I have allergies — can I get an allergy test beforehand?
Yes, please book a separate consultation. During this appointment, an allergy test can be performed upon request.
Why is permanent make-up not recommended during breastfeeding?
Permanent make-up is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The hormonal changes during this time can affect how well the pigments are absorbed by the skin, and skin sensitivity or tolerance may be reduced.
In the unlikely event of an allergic reaction, treatment with antibiotics might be required — and because your safety always comes first, we do not perform permanent make-up during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
What are the contraindications for permanent make-up?
There are various medical, dermatological and situational contraindications for permanent make-up.
In these cases, a treatment may not be performed or only after prior medical clearance.
Below is a clear overview of the different categories:
🔴 1. Dermatological contraindications
(No pigmentation is allowed as long as these skin conditions are present)
spots / unclear skin changes
petechiae (pinpoint bleeding under the skin)
bruising (hematoma)
cysts
hives (allergic reactions, urticaria)
eczema / dermatitis
ulcers
psoriasis in the treatment area
moles / naevi
liver spots
port-wine stains (naevus flammeus)
haemangiomas
open, irritated or inflamed skin
➡️ Areas that require dermatological clarification are never to be pigmented.
🔴 2. Medical contraindications
(No treatment is possible while these conditions are active)
infectious diseases (bacterial, viral, feverish illnesses)
active herpes infection (especially for lips!)
skin rashes or acute allergic flare-ups
blood coagulation disorders
severely weakened immune system
untreated epilepsy
uncontrolled type 1 or type 2 diabetes
tendency to keloids (excessive scar formation)
🟠 3. Medication-related contraindications
Pigmentation should not be performed, or only after medical approval, if you are taking:
blood thinners (aspirin, Marcumar, heparin, etc.)
isotretinoin / Roaccutane (minimum break of 6–12 months)
long-term cortisone therapy
chemotherapy or radiation therapy (requires medical clearance)
🔵 4. Situational / temporary contraindications
(Pigmentation is possible, but only at a later time)
pregnancy
breastfeeding
recent surgical procedures in the treatment area
severe sunburn
fever or acute illness
recent aesthetic treatments such as Botox or hyaluronic fillers
Botox: approx. 2-week interval
Hyaluron: approx. 4-week interval
⭐ In short:
Pigmentation cannot be performed on open, inflamed, unclear or medically compromised skin, nor if health conditions may impair the healing process.
If there is any uncertainty, we recommend obtaining brief medical clarification.
